The TruVote Patent
On March 8, 2005, the United States Patent Office issued patent number
6,865,543, VOTER CERTIFICATION, VALIDATION AND VERIFICATION 8METHOD AND
APPARATUS, to Athan Gibbs, Sr. Athan assigned the Patent to TruVote
International.
The claims of the patent cover the methods and apparatus for the validation and
verification of voting by a voter and includes the following:
Using an electronic voting machine to receive votes from a voter in an election.
Generation of a paper ballot which the voter can review for correctness.
Generating an index number which links the paper ballot with an electronic image of the ballot.
Validation, by the voter, that the information on the paper ballot correctly represents his or her vote.
Validating by the voter and the election jurisdiction that the paper ballot is certified by the voter as being correct.
Printing the certified and approved ballot
Audit and checking the approved ballot to insure a match between the paper ballot and its corresponding electronic ballot.
